Local Smart Growth Campaign

MetroFuture includes many goals for future growth and preservation that depend on decisions made at the municipal level.  The MetroFuture Plan advocates for compact growth and the protection of natural landscapes.

With its Local Smart Growth Campaign, MAPC is building a set of best practices and models for what smart growth looks like in different places around the region.  Towards this end, we have created profiles of places and developments around the region that exemplify smart growth.  Links to an initial set of profiles can be found below.  We will continue to expand this list as well as generating other materials that will exemplify smart growth in the region.

MAPC works on a range of different projects with municipalities in the region that advance the goals of MetroFuture.  Through partnerships with interested municipalities, MAPC offers data, decision-support tools, alternative scenario analyses, as well as opportunities for public engagement and information-sharing to empower communities when making planning decisions.

While not all of its planning work is part of the Local Smart Growth Campaign, MAPC does ensure that all of its work advances MetroFuture.  Click here to download a summary of MAPC's recent planning work around the region.  The list includes projects that are primarily focused on development, but smart growth is also about strategic land preservation.  To download an example of our land preservation work, the just-completed Everett Open Space and Recreation Plan, click here
