Contest Rules:
By submitting an entry to the MetroFuture Photo Contest organized by the Metropolitan Area Planning Council, you agree you have read, understand, and agree to the following contest rules:
Process
To submit photos, each entrant must register for the photo contest by providing contact information on the online registration form and then email photos directly to kives@mapc.org.
Dates and Deadlines
The submission deadline is April 20, 2010 at 11:59 pm EST. Finalists will be posted online for public voting at www.metrofuture.org from May 5, 2010 through May 20th, 2010. The winners will be announced in June.
Eligibility
Photos cannot exceed 5MB in file size and must be in JPEG format. Participants may submit one photograph in each of the four categories for a total of four photographs.
If an entrant exceeds any of these limits, MAPC may at its discretion either disqualify all of the entrant’s entries or select at its discretion entries to go forward for judging.
Metropolitan Area Planning Council employees and their immediate family members (spouse, parent, child, sibling, and their respective spouses) or persons living in the same households of such employees are not eligible.
Professional photographers, (anyone who derives more than half of their income from photography) are not eligible.
In the sole discretion of MAPC, any photograph containing objectionable, defamatory, or inappropriate content will be disqualified.
Contest participants should include in the photos submission email, the location of the image and a short description explaining how the photo embodies the contest category theme. MAPC reserves the right to edit captions, titles, or descriptions of participants’ photos which appear on metrofuture.org, mapc.org, or any MAPC-related print or electronic communications.
Judging and Voting
Judges will determine thirty finalists from all of the entries. Voting will then be open to the public to choose one first place winner in each of the four categories for receiving the highest vote totals in each category. One of the four winners will also be the "grand prize winner" of the photo contest for receiving the highest number of votes overall.
Entries will be judged for admission to the finals based on creativity (25%), quality of photography (25%), and message conveyance (50%).
During the finals, each participant may vote one time. Any attempt by any voter to submit more than one vote by using different email addresses or any other method will void that voter's votes and/or entries and he/she will be disqualified from further participation in the contest.
Winners and Prizes
Winners in each category of the MetroFuture Photo Contest will each receive a $100 gift certificate to a local photography store, and the grand prize winner will receive an additional $100 gift certificate to a local photography store. The thirty finalists will have earned honorable mentions. Finalists and winners will be notified of their status via email.
Finalists’ and winning photographs may be showcased on www.mapc.org, www.metrofuture.org, at upcoming MAPC events, in an in-office gallery, additional public venues, and/or in the Regional Record E-newsletter.
If the selected winners cannot be located or do not respond within five business days to a winner notification, MAPC’s judges’ panel may choose a different finalist as a winner from that category or as the grand prize winner.
Copyright and Licenses
The photograph/s must be original and taken by the participant, not infringing on the copyrights, trademarks, or intellectual property rights of any person or party. Photographs taken by someone other than the participant but submitted by the participant will not be considered. The submission of each photograph is the participant’s guarantee that he or she is the author and copyright holder of such photograph/s.
By entering the contest, the participant retains all rights to any photograph submitted but grants to MAPC, an irrevocable perpetual, nonexclusive license to reproduce, distribute, exhibit, or print entries in any media form without any fee or other form of compensation. Photographs will be credited to the participant named in the contest form. Each participant also grants MAPC the unrestricted right to use statements made in connection with the contest, and pictures of contest participants in any media form.
Conditions
Entrants may withdraw from the Contest by notifying MAPC by April 20, 2010.
If the contest is not able to be completed as planned, MAPC reserves the right to adjust deadlines, modify, suspend, or cancel the contest. MAPC will notify the public via the contest webpage if such changes occur.
